Today I was testing a Nikon 400mm f/4.5 Z lens with and without a 2X TC. Below are two images taken from the same spot that I processed as nearly identically as I could. Image #1 was shot with the TC in DX mode (effectively 1200mm) at 1/2500th, f/9, ISO 9000. Image size is 3898x2599 pixels. image #2 was shot without the TC in DX mode (effectively 600mm) at 1/600th,f/5.6, ISO 1000. Image size is 2092x1395. The first image was noticeably softer, but sharpened up in Topaz Photo AI nicely, and having nearly twice the number of pixels helps as well. Taken at different times, so the lighting was slightly different and contributed to the differences in ISO and shutter speeds. I welcome any thoughts on the results.
