Lone elephant bull in the early morning. He was grazing next to a large tree that cast some dappled light and shaded spots on his hide.

Nikon D7100 with Nikkor 70-200mm F4. Zoomed out at 70mm we were quite close to this guy.

Very nice. Have you tried it as a B&W? I reckon this would look stunning.

EDIT:
Could not help myself. Did an automatic B&W in LR and a side by side comparison in FastStone Image Viewer. Looks great IMHO.

Thanks for the push, Peter. Here are two different versions applying Nik Silver Effex Pro.

Thanks, Kathy. I'm not much into B&W usually. But yesterday as I was editing the image I thought there might be B&W potential here. Peter at Oztours pushed me over that initial reluctance to try B&W. This was as easy as falling out of bed - I just used two versions of the Nik plug-in to get these results.

Good one @Rassie. No 1 gets my vote also. Just a bit too much brightness in the grass of No 2. Hard to see (or maybe I am more blind than I thought), but side by side in full screen, you can see it clearly. I too was never much into B&W, but in the last 12 months I have been resurrecting photos from the 30's and 40's and doing that makes you see things in a different light. And if that's a pun, it was intended....

Look out @Callie. I might convert you too. :) Many of your images would look brilliant in B&W.

EDIT:

Would love to hear some opinions on that NIK. Tried it a couple of years ago but never pursued it. Maybe it's time to revisit. Maybe I should start a separate thread.

You are welcome to convert to B&W if you want to, no problem. As for Nik, I use two filters all the time, makes a world of difference. You should be sleeping? 😁😴😂

So here's the second B&W with highlights toned down a bit. I lean more towards this one. The first B&W is somewhat contrasty for my taste. But that's the thing with B&W. Many more variations that can look good versus a colour image.

Beautiful capture Rassie. I love richness of the combination of texture and mottled light that you get in the color version (it seems a bit diminished to me in B&W) but they're all fantastic! Great shot(s)!
