The Culpeo (Lycalopex culpaeus), also called the Zorro Culpea, the Culpeo Fox, or the Andean Fox is in reality not closely related to members of the fox family. To me, the head looks similar to the wolf and the body and color look similar to a jackal, which is not surprising, given that jackals and wolves are its closest relatives. Indeed, the genus name means "wolf fox". The species is found in a narrow strip along much of the west coast of South America. They eat a wide variety of prey, and their range is thought to have spread from the Andean foothills into the Patagonia plains due to the introduction of the European Hare and European Rabbit. These animals are listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.
