A lone Hippo bull was not happy with our presence and proceeded to give us a wonderful bucket mouth tantrum display. :ROFLMAO:

Outstanding as always Marc..... I often wonder WHY does a hippo need those teeth to eat grass and vegetation ??? (things that make you go hmmmm)

Great attitude! Lovely images of Mr Beeg Mouth, Marc! Love it when the mouth turns into a waterfall like #1 & #4! I often wondered if one could get a slow real waterfall feel here but I think only if you PS it; the action is too fast!

Another fabulous series Marc. That mouth is amazing. I was thinking that the only time I have seen a mouth wider than this is with whales ... then I read the article Peter posted and see that hippos are related to whales!

Maybe they don't. Here's an interesting article.

Plenty of truth in that article you posted Peter,

many years ago I remember seeing a big bull munching on a drowned Mara River Wildebeest, I initially thought he was moving the carcass away from his territory
and my giude refused to believe what I had seen
There a things we see in nature that sometimes defy what the old nature rule book states.

Let's not forget those gnashing jaws of death really come into their own when fighting other males over territory.

Simply stunning series of shots illustrating male hippo behaviour , Marc--- always fascinating to watch --from a distance preferably !!
