For those of us who still use SD cards (I know most of you are CFexpress), has anyone used the stronger Sony Tough or Delkin Black SD cards? Are they as good as they claim? And has anyone compared those two brands to see if there is any difference?

I've been using Sony Tough SD cards in a number of cameras for years now.

They work great and haven't had any issues with them.

That being said, I got 2 years ago some "cheap" Kingston Canvas React Plus V90 U3 cards and they perform just as well (the cameras seem to be the limiting factor) and they seem just as well built...

The only issue I ever had with the Sony Tough cards is they are thicker than standard SD cards and they can be a tight fit in the camera and in some card readers. They work but they require a little more force to seat and to pull out. Other than that, I never had a problem with them.

In my Canon R7, I use a Kingston in one card slot and a Sandisk in the other? Why two different brands? haha that's what I bought at the time when I needed cards. I was testing to see if there were performance differences (spoiler alert, there is no difference in camera or in my card readers. I ran Blackmagic Speed Test on the cards and the differences in read and write was within a margin of error).
[edit to add: they both had sustained write speeds of about 300MB/s. One was like 302 on average and one was about 298 on average. Both cards were listed as 300MB/s cards.]

But to answer your question on the Sony Tough, I had no problems with it in my D500. I gave the XQD card and the Sony Tough cards to the person who bought the D500 when I sold it.

In my opinion the best feature of these cards is they don’t have the lock switch on the card that gets unintentionally moved to the lock position. I really don’t know if they are more durable as I’ve not broken any SD card but I also don’t run them over and stuff as they show in the photos on the product page. Delkin has a great replacement warranty program for the Black cards and has been my choice now. I previously had bought the Sony Tough cards. Didn’t have any issues with either.

Sony Tough, I did not notice a more robust card. Above someone said they are slight thicker, did not notice. All cards are made in Taiwan (as shown on the back). I have washed and dried them as I left in my Levi's, dropped in the dust... never a failure. I no longer use that storage.

Interesting the Sony Tough cards I had were a little thicker. About .005 to .007" thicker which isn't much but in one card reader I noticed and when I put them in my Canon R7 they were tighter. In the D500 no difference.

My local shop (Tucson Camera Repair) carries Delkin so he is ordering me a Delkin Black. If I think of it I will try to post my experience here once I have a chance to use it.
