The good news for this male leopard was that he had caught an impala. The bad news was that 2 lions were on the ground below the tree staring at him as he stared back. Taken in Sabi Sands, South Africa, yesterday.

Very nice! Would have loved to seen the wider angle shot showing the lions.
Thanks - the leoprad was at least 20m up in the tree and the lions were some 30-40m away from the tree itself. Although not clear from the processed image it was essentially dark with the lighting on the leopard from the vehicle spotlight.

So pretty much impossible! Too bad, but you have a great shot just the same. Very nice.

Great shot, would be interesting to hear what the outcome was.
Thanks. This was late n the evening and we had to leave with the stand-off unresolved. One of the other rangers returned next day to find no leaopard, no impala and no lions - so we have no idea how it was resolved. The lepard was not seen again around the reserve in the three days before I left but this is not in itself unusual with male leopards.
