Troubling eagle incident

Not long before dark, this eagle came in for landing in a willow tree about 25' above ground. The small limb he/she landed on twisted and the eagle flopped over, and the foot got tangled in the branches. The man who witnessed the incident came into the house to report the eagle was hanging in the tree. The eagle was stuck for a couple hours while we arranged a rescue. We examined our options (in consultation with our wives) for a quick rescue and after determining a couple old, retired guys would not be well advised to do any acrobatics and tree climbing to attempt the rescue. The local governmental agencies were called, and their responses did not inspire confidence in a possible timely rescue. So, a daughter was contacted, and she brought a couple of capable young men, one of whom climbed the tree and literally went out on a limb and cut it off. When the limb leaned over as it was being felled g

ravity and downward angle of the limb allowed the foot to come free, the eagle's wings were extended, and flight barely saved it from hitting the ground and breaking any bones. The eagle flew about 100 yards and landed in a field. It rested about 15 minutes before flying away. I did get a pic as we waited for help to arrive before darkness took over and the rescue occurred. Lots of post processing was needed because of the dark conditions.

After looking more closely at the feet in the photo it looks like the eagle could have let go any time it wanted to and maybe the body's entanglement in the branches caused it to retain the grip.
