Photographed on the afternoon of February 5, 2024, in a small natural area in Tucson, Arizona. A male we have followed for a while in the area knicknamed Graybeard. He has a radio collar which is mostly covered by his facial ruff but I retouched the small remaining parts to remove it. (Collaring of bobcats in this specific area is opposed by several of us regulars due to some detrimental consequences that I won't get into here). Presented in the order they were taken.

Wonderful capture of that magnificent Cat Fred.
Happy trails.

For a short period he was also vocalizing loudly, which makes me hope he was calling for the resident female (a young cat knicknamed Mimi, also collared). If my theory is correct, he had caught her scent and she is in heat, which makes me hopeful for spring/summer kittens.

On February 8, 2024, I got off work early and was able spend just over an hour there at sunset. It was forecast to rain so I threw on my camera raincover (and my own waterproof jacket) and it did start raining lightly shortly after I arrived. I found the same bobcat and this time he allowed me (and another photographer who saw me) to follow him on his hunt until it got dark. We kept a respectful distance and his behavior indicated we were not disturbing him. I started with 2x teleconverter on my Z 70-200 but when it got darker I took it off to get f2.8 . I digitally removed the radio collar.
