The Tui is one of the iconic, endemic birds of New Zealand. These birds have a number of interesting features. First, they are well known for their tuft of white feathers under their chin, well seen in these images. Second, they are quite aggressive and keep other birds away from their sources of fruit and nectar. Third, they are excellent mimics and can be taught to reproduce human speech. Even in the wild, they can be heard to mimic sirens, honking cars, car alarms, etc. These birds are quite colorful and display many areas of iridescent feathers. Their collar of spiky white feathers is quite unusual.
