I drove around the rural areas outside of town again today to see if I could land some hawk shots, this time using wifey's Z50 for more reach.
I found two hawks in different locations on the same road about 7 km apart, and they have one thing in common. They are very skittish. Both times I stopped the car and slowly got out. They would only allow a couple of shots before taking off.
Looking at the BIF image of the second bird, it looks like it had been mauled somehow.
Z50 with Nikkor 200-500mm.
