Black and White Colobus Monkeys are strictly leaf eaters, spending most of their time in the treetops--their complex stomachs allow them to digest mature or toxic foliage that other monkeys cannot. New born babies are covered with white fur giving way to the black and white coloration at almost 3 months old.
They live in all types of closed forests including montane and gallery forests. Their mantle hair and tails are believed to act as parachutes during long leaps, and they often use branches as trampolines, jumping up and down on them to get lift off for leaps of up to 50 feet.
They can live for up to 22 years and use mineral licks to balance their vegetarian diet.
