Hi,

Apologies that this is aimed at anyone with experience of the UK camera market.

Would anyone be able to offer an unbiased opinion regarding Wex Photographic or London Camera Exchange in terms of products and customer service? Both (branches) are reasonably within travelling distance for me though I would welcome any experiences that you have had. This would be for a full range of camera equipment and advice. Both have appeared professional and friendly through web chat.

Thanks in advance.

David

I've used WEX extensively for camera bodies, lenses and accessories. Always found them knowledgeable and their service has been great. Never used LCE.

Don't forget you can always ask for advice on here too :)

I have used LCE Lincoln branch for several years for new and used equipment, in fact I collected a used Nikon 105 2.8 micro today sent from Derby. They even found me a new 500pf a few months ago. Excellent services and nice people. No experience of Wex.

After 20+ years with Jessops was forced to LCE in Derby in August. I knew what equipment I was going to buy so that part was a quick transaction. However, I had 12 items to trade in and that was done excellently. Didn't take too long and the prices offered were probably a little higher than I expected. The chap I dealt with was pleasant enough but there was no tech talk involved so I don't know how much they know.

Still, a good start and I won't be as nervous next time.

I also second LCE as excellent. They fit the cliche of upholding the old world retailer service standards of pre 21st century camera store (as does Grays)! I have bought and sold Used Nikkors from the LCE branches in Guildford and Strand Street, London. Their branches buy and sell separately, and IME the staff have the autonomy to make decisions in store etc. I have also used mail order rom LCE, Bristol. All v good.

Aperture Photographic are great. They deserve support IMHO and above all my experience since 2015. Note they only deal in Used Nikon (besides several other brands). They give 6 months warranty (as does LCE). They have been very patient with my out-of-town and out-of-country orders and always give excellent prices with Used. I've bought 2 cameras that served very well. Also my 300 f2.8G etc. Jason and Patrick know their subjects.

Wex holds a huge inventory, and are very prompt at mail orders via internet, and LCE are not far behind.
I had a negative experience with a planned purchase at the big London Wex store last year, which put me off. The salesman had to get permission from their HQ in Norwich. As I had understand from his manager all was in order by it was impossible to interrupt a meeting or something. My time was tight, and after far waiting too long I left finally.

LCE sorted me out at short notice - ordering the item overnight and keeping me updated by cellphone etc. Both LCE branches have knowledge staff in my experience who've had much experience in retail. I remembered I posted quite a detailed synopsis here 2 years back here. Minor update is last year I bought my 80-400 G from Grays - the Nikon Summer special. I've have had positive experiences dealing with Becky, selling them Used Nikkors.
Final Note: For protective filters, also CPL including - I standardized on Marumi I rely on Microglobe near the BM in London - decent prices. The helpful salesman also ordered the expensive internal models for Nikon telephotos

This review by Lensrentals is arguably the last word as of the current brands
