Hi.
Thought AF was faster and steadier , loess flickering of AF conformation indicator... When reviewing images after upgrade they looked crisper & sharper.
Shooting with a Nikon 600mm & 1.4 extender.
Joe Marco Island Fl.

Under low light conditions, center point AF stayed on BIFs much better. Hand held 600 EFL, 1/2000 sec, ISO 8000-16,000. Seemed to stay on smaller BIFs better, in general, came home with a good 50% more in focus.

Okay guys,
Still hope for a solution regarding the drop in speed with the 180-400 and 800mm
Not sure wether this issue applies to the 600 too?
Great regarding the AF although I had not much to complain about it already..
I haven't had any speed reductions with the 600EFL, 500EFL nor 500PF.

You know about the issue?
VR ON and a slower aperture causing a drop in speed?

Well I installed the update but the issue persists.
Anybody else with a D6 plus 180-400 and/or 800FL who has this issue too?

@Steve I know you shoot the 180-400 too with a D6 but I never read you had this issue too?

The only noticeable drop in speed I get is with normal VR engaged. The frame rate seems the same with VR off, VR Sport, or when the lens is stopped down, with or without the TC. With Normal VR engaged though, there is a drop in frame rate.

Nope VR on plus stopped down
VR on wide open is no problem

Googled the issue and it looks like a problem with the D6
(There’s a thread on the same issue at FM)

That's odd - I'm getting a different result. (shutter speed was 1/1250 for all tests)

No VR - No problem wide open or stopped down

VR Normal Wide Open - Slower
VR Normal F/11 - Slower

VR Sport Wide Open - Normal
VR Sport F/11 - Normal

So, for me, it seems like I only get a slow down when using Normal VR. Other modes are fine. This is also pretty typical - it happens with my D5 as well and with my 600 F/4 on either camera in Normal VR mode. It seems like Normal VR mode may be limited to somewhere around 9~10 FPS. If I'm using VR, I nearly always use Sport so the slowdown in Normal mode doesn't really matter to me.

Also, for the record, I'm going by sight / sound - I'm not shooting and importing photos and looking at time stamps. So, if you're talking a difference of a single frame per second I can't say that I'm not getting a slow down, however, I can usually tell 2 FPS or more by ear pretty well and that doesn't seem to be happening.

At any rate, stopping down the 180-400 isn't making any noticeable difference in frame rate for me with that lens.

I know Nikon had some problems with some of the D6 batteries early on, I wonder if the stopping down slow down is a power issue.
