Updates for Secrets to The Nikon Autofocus System

Hi Steve,
I have the following versions of Secrets to the Nikon Autofocus System.
Version 1.0.1 110 519KB
Version 1.2.2 43 370KB
Version 1.3.0 47 583KB

Version 1.0.1 is a much larger file than the other two.
Does 1.3.0 contain all the information in the much larger file of Version 1.0.1 ?

Can I delete the two older versions?
I want to delete two of the versions and retain only the latest but don't want to lose any content that may be relevant.

On Friday 8th November I am on my way to the Rain Forests of Madagascar and would like to brush up on my knowledge on the plane.
Also any references to how to handle the exposure settings would be appreciated.

I tend to concentrate on birds, with BIF my favourite, but all wildlife, insects, plants and landscapes are all fair game.

I use a Nikon D500 with various lenses but big lens is Nikkor 200-500mm 1:5,6E ED. ( I use this with a home designed shoulder rifle butt )
At 84 I need all the help I can get! I also use a Blackrapid Double Harness.

The other lenses are;
AF-S Nikkor DX 18-300mm 5,6 3,5-5,6 G ED ( which I have had for many years and is one of the best examples of this lens )
AD-S Niikor 10-24mm 1::3.5- 4,5 G ED
Tameron SP 90mm F/2,8 Di Macro 1:1 VC USD
Sigma 1:1,4 DG ( i am not sure why I am taking this, but I love the lens?)
I am also taking a Monfrotto 055 with a Gymbol head.

I guess my wife might not be happy being designated as porter!!

I am about to do a Fine tune on all the lenses I am taking with me.
Some of my photo-friends say that this is not wise. I shouldn't do anything new without testing before I go.
As usual, I have left it to late for that!!

I intend to use a Nikon SB-700 speedlight. with the MagBeam Wildlife Kit.

Could you please advise.

Thanks

The current AF book for DSLRs is at 1.6.2. You can download it from the link below if you have an account with the new store:

https://bcgwebstore.com/my-account/

If you don't have an account, contact Rose at the customer service link and she can create one and import your purchases from the old cart (which, based on the version number, is probably what you need)

Feel free to delete the old versions; I only add to the books, I don't take away.

Also, I've not been to Madagascar so I can't speak to the lens choice, someone else might chime in with advice. Looks like a solid setup to me though.

As for fine tuning, my current advice is to fine tune if you see an issue with consistent front or back focusing, although it doesn't hurt to check. Sometimes tuning can make things worse, people often do it incorrectly or not with enough care and end up worse off than they were before. For me, I shoot with the gear and if I see issues with consistent front or back focusing (but not both), I'll do some tuning.
