Wifey & I visited Hagerman again this past weekend and could see a difference in the bird population from our previous visit a couple weeks age. Winter migrants are arriving.

Looks like you had a good visit. :) Did you notice some of the spots on the Flicker's breast are heart shaped??

Thank you Icarus, we had a really nice morning. Ya know, I did not notice that until you pointed it out. I need to go back & look at more of them, as I've not ever noticed that before.

Superb series...👌👌

Thanks Yezdi, that's very kind.

Great shots Phil!

I appreciate it, Andy - thanks.

Wow, particularly the flicker and killdeer shots.

Thank you Mike.

Funny you mention that. It was a very odd day regarding IQ. I struggled all day, as did a buddy who was with us. It "felt like" we were experiencing thermal degradation as you would in the middle of summer when the rising heat waves effectively "blur" images. In this case, temps were in the low ~ mid 40s (F) and the sky was a mix of overcast to partly cloudy. Typically, this would have made for wonderful shooting conditions.

Wifey experienced much less of this phenomenon that my buddy & I did. Heck, I shot with D500 & Z50 and several lenses (with & w/o TC's) and my buddy used even more combinations. We had this experience in all of the various setups.

Of the shots I posted here, only Theresa's Flicker and the two Killdeer (possible the perched Bald Eagle) images had the detail I would expect. All the others are really on the "soft side". I know some of the SS were on the slow side, but there was nothing radically different that normal.

The only thing I could come up with was possibly moisture in the air...???... I never has hay fogging issues on the gear or vehicle windows.

Anyone have thoughts or ideas on this?

Steve P. - how 'bout you?
