VR hums louder?

I guess it depends how loud it is. My 105 is pretty much the same as my other VR lenses. If you purchased it new, it has a five year warranty, so probably not too much to worry about. Where I would worry is if it seem like the VR is "rattling" or "banging" or if it sounds like a spring popping. I know from experience that's an issue and it will cause optical problems until it finally just quits. However, if it's just a consistent hum, it's probably fine.

Thank you for your reply, Steve.
The VR is not "rattling" or "banging" and it doesn’t sounds like a spring popping.
When I first tried my 105mm I was surprised by the sound it made. I had no idea I could hear the VR engine working. I have subsequently listened to my other VR lenses and I need to have the camera right up to my ear to be able to hear a faint hum. With my 105 mm I can clearly hear that hum at a distance of one meter.
Other than that, the 105mm is fast, accurate, razor sharp and everything seems to be in the most beautiful order (y)
Best regards
Jesper
