Getting up early in late summer on a cold morning without wind is almost always worthwile. This Wasp spider had chosen a perfect spot for it's big web. The characteristic zig zag thing in the web is called the 'Stabilimentum' the name suggets a function but it is not clear what it's function is. It may be a lure, but also a warning to largere animals to avoid the web. Which makes sense since it is quite an investment for the spider to make it. The image is a stack of 25 exposures made using the focus shift feature on the Z8.
