Last year I found a web site for The Ultimate Waterfowl Hunters Challenge (http://www.waterfowlerschallenge.com/ ). Their goal is to harvest each species of American waterfowl in the table below. They would have to submit a photograph to verify their species of waterfowl. I decided that instead of actually harvesting the birds I would just take their photograph. Much harder as I need to get the birds in closer. I am including both drakes and hens in my version of the challenge. They have a time frame to complete the list of 5 -20 years. I haven’t set my time frame because COVID-19 has interrupted my photography. I currently have photographed 18 species (26 total drakes and hens).
I was hoping to continue through the fall (2020) but the places I would travel were closed to visitors. So now into 2021 I plan to start again in areas where I can get access.
Here are photos of the types of blinds / hide I use for photography.
The first blind is a float tube with a hinged canopy. Real nice to get around in the marsh / wetlands. The second hide (not my actual hide) I built from a design on the Carolina Wild Photo site. This hide is only used on the shoreline, and it is very effective. Both require the use of waders.
OFFICIAL UWC NORTH AMERICAN WATERFOWL SPECIES LIST
Note: For All waterfowl other than Geese, Tundra Swans, Sandhill Cranes, Black Duck and the Mottled Duck, only drakes are able to be entered to certify a species.
