Getting these fast little guys on the wing is always a challenge and my heart rate goes up in the attempt.
These shots were taken at a Ramsar-listed wetland where chironomid midges are the link pin of the ecosystem.
Welcome Swallows take the adult on the wing ('hawking') and I think here they're taking pupae just below the water surface. The Swallows also dip to drink.
