Dear community,

In September last year we had some hot days in the flood plains of Danube river Europe/Austria. Then the deer seek the cool forest. Nevertheless they do not stay in one place during the rutting season, but roam around their territory non stop, defending it from rivals by impressive roaring or, if necessary, by fighting with their antlers. Quite a stressful job. Sometimes some growth from the undergrowth can get stuck on the antlers. As soon as the temperatures drop during the day, they enter the open meadows. The hunter says: "They are moving out" (of the forest). This is the photographer's moment when such pictures of a well-stocked, capital deer, as the hunter calls a well-fed deer with powerful antlers, can be taken.

Outstanding portrait! Notice the “lip-roll”, clear indicator in deer species of rutting activity. And camouflaged! Probably a result of thrashing grasses like our whitetail rub trees to release some aggression….

Dear Larry, thank you for your comment. It looks like you know what you're talking about...... (y)
It seems to me that not everyone in the forum is familiar with deer...
