What's with Nikon

Why has Nikon not provided their new Z mount lens line -up with Arca Swiss plates?? It's a shame having to always add third party plates or expensive replacement foot, on quality expensive lenses???

Your both correct, why not be first to add that additional one step further customer service? I can't imagine it add's more weight since your removing additional material from an already provide foot. I can't speak regarding costs or what's involved regarding retooling, but since many of the longer lenses are aimed at nature shooters, sports, and tripods & monopods are a big part of our lives it would be nice & if one chooses not to use it, simply swing it out of the way as you do with the provided foot. Just my observation.

I agree with you, and it's my biggest complaint with the 180-600, but so the story goes none of them want to lock people to arca swiss, even though we all use it. Might be a licensing thing too.

Your sentiments resonate with me. This is the least expensive option I could find which is made by Benro. Even so, It costs $47 2 years ago and only came w/1 stirrup screw. I had to complain to Adorama and talk to a representative to get the second screw.🤨

Don't Tamron & Sigma offer the arca swiss foot on their bigger glass? That one screw thing is a poor design for sure, like you I would be looking for an answer. Nice lense Larry I'm hope to pair the Z 600 f/6.3 with my Z 100 -400 as a much lighter alternative to my 600 f/4 G lense which will be dedicated to blind work.

Yeah ... you're right. At least on Sigma. I had the 105mm f/1.4 for a while and it had the Arca factory foot.

As a camera shop employee I've been told this by my Tamron Rep. Tamron owns the patent on building in the Arcaswiss dovetails into the lens foot. He also said Sigma and a couple other outliers like that Fuji 200mm Karl mentioned above and then some OM systems telephoto lenses all Pay Tamron for that convenience. Take that with a grain of salt but it seems likely to me.

Thanks everyone I enjoy all your points of view, maybe Nikon will hear our suggestions and do something surprising for us all, not that it will benefit me, I've already invested in all the additional bits for my gear, but those up and coming young photographers would benefit for sure. It's a small fortune when one adds it up over the years. Again Thank you
Ray

Sounds salty to me. If Tamron owned the patents, I would suspect that they would have licensed it (at least to Nikon).

Yes, but that's third party. No first party lenses (eg nikon/sony/canon, maybe down to MFT, though I'm not sure) have arca swiss by default.

Arca-Swiss says their system has been on the market since the 1950s. Patents are only valid for 20 years. There might have been refinements, but not sure we are talking about those. (There is a 2003 patent but it is also expired.)

I'm glad my gear doesn't come with those releases because I hardly ever mount my lenses or cameras.
