Lonehill Nature Reserve, about 30 min drive from us, right in the heart of the largest metropolitan area in Southern Africa; it has a delightful SW dam and willow trees, allowing egrets and herons to built nest and photographers to grab some nice shots when the sun is out and the birds perform!
#1 is 4 consecutive images plonked into one - not stitched, just dropped the birds into the first image to show the flight sequence. Two of the other images are incorporated in the collage, the other two just more in flights. I love shooting BIF and the different wing positions never ceases to amaze me.

Outstanding series!! Flight isn't always as pretty when captured in small pieces as it is when you see the full motion. It, however, still spectacular like these show.

Beautiful series. When birds do acrobatics, I love to see the way the feathers behave. It is amazing to me that their feathers usually look pristine, unless it's
an individual having a hard time.

Beautiful Callie!

Dear Callie. On behalf of all us noble egrets I must protest at this “chicken” label. And I have a hunch “chickens” may occupy more of your hard disc space that any other critter. I believe royalties are due? You’ve really got the exposure sorted on these guys. And PP, though I suspect there’s very little you’re doing to the images. One of my ambitions is to get cattle chickens to walk with me and treat me like a large mammal. Drongos fine, chickens never. #1 is exceptional.

Thanks, Peter
I must have 20k plus images of all our white egrets. I shot them for years nearly every afternoon after work and also umpteen times at Linehill.
THE chicken came about as a generic term I use, actually, hoenders, Afrikaans for chickens, because it is quicker than to say egret or heron or spoonbill and so the attending group were just grouped as white chickens. Their feathers are amazing and I have a series of funky chickens I must rework

I'm looking forward to the funky chicken post. If I don't (y) it please pm me as I'll have missed it.
