My wife and I visited White Sands earlier this year arriving the first afternoon just before dark. After a mad dash chasing light we got a couple images, shot the next morning and evening. During the day in harsh light we shot for B&W. If you have a chance WS is an extraordinary place to shoot. My wife and I were shooting 24-70's and 70-200's. It turned out the 70-200's suited us better by compressing the dunes. We simply avoided the crowds and went to less traditional spots finding plenty to shoot. Once the sun sets the great light begins so don't leave early.
