Late August. 590nm Infrared converted to B&W. Yet another place I could spend a few days walking and photographing!

The "sand" is gypsum rather than silica sand. It can be firmer and easier to walk on, and it is gorgeous to photograph im the right sunlight when it takes on a blue cast. We did not get a good sunset, but plan to go back for another longer visit.

This park is in the desert of southern New Mexico near Alamogordo and the White Sands Missile Range. This is also the area where the original Trinity Atomic Bom test was conducted. A lot empty land around there.
Recent findings at White Sands include human footprints that may be over 20,000 years old.
