These are among my earliest shots on my then brand new Nikkor 200-500mm f/5.6 lens taken at the end of 2016.
Shots are from the Audubon Nature Center a short walk from my home. The wildlife there is used to people walking around the area. They are less shy and will sit for photos quite well. He posed for me for at least 15 minuttes until I left him still sitting there.
Nikon D750, Nikkor 200-500mm f/5.6 lens at 500mm, 1/640 sec, f/5.6, ISO 720 and 640 respectively, LRCC. 20mp and 16mp crops respectively.
My wife told me that one about this size was strolling through our yard yesterday.

Joe, great to have accommodating models, not like some I have met here in the bush!
I would not expect similar accommodation from a bear, moose or a mountain lion. In fact, I would not necessarily expect it from this animal right now as their rut (mating season) is upon us and they can get a bit feisty. They use the Wildlife reserve area (Audubon Center) as a safe place away from people, cars. etc. The biggest hazard they pose is if you hit one with your car, which happens about 20,000 times a year in my home state of Wisconsin. Adult bucks average about 150lb/70kg though this one is a bit bigger than that.

>20K that is seriously bad!

Wisconsin is about 170K sq. km (65.6K sq. Miles) with a population of about 5.8M people and a peak annual dear population of about 1.5-1.8 M white tailed deer before the hunt. Hunters take about 300-400K per year. Lots of deer! Our daughter hit one several years ago. Killed the 80kg/175lb buck and caused $6600 (USD) in damage to the SUV she was driving. Had she been in an small car it could have been bad for her.

We have about that much people in Jo'burg, in Gauteng ~ Area: 18 176 km², the economic heartland there are about 15,5M people. Wildlife is virtually non-existent but some realy wild people! 😁 :sneaky:

That's a dandy buck. The first image is quite nice, the second would be as well but for the out of focus branch.

I've had a few bears that were as accommodating as that buck, but they usually turn tail and run off.
