The first image seems incongruous to me - this tiny, tiny birdie and the thick, unyielding barb wire he seems to be pulling tight!
This is the male White-winged Fairy-wren. The Australian Outback had a great year or rain and the grass was high and sightings difficult. These guys flew up out of the grass to perch for a few seconds on the fence, only to fly off again. Taken outside the town of Roma, Queensland.
A lifer for me.
