This friendly fellow almost wanted to walk up and visit. Suggestion to improve?

I do like close in crops of interesting subjects with plenty of detail, however I think he is too tightly cropped. Might benefit from a little more room on the left, and even more on the right so he has room to look into. It looks a bit soft, and maybe over processed. The twig or ? coming out of his mouth is very distracting, and leads the eye right on out of the frame. The curvy out of focus thing in the lower left also leads the eye away from the subject. I would like to see more of his eye, could it be lightened up any? Just my 2 cents worth.

I agree on the tightness of the crop, but that's personal preference re composition. I would use a healing tool to see if you can successfully remove the twig that looks like its up his nose (photo right) and the reed that loops into the photo, along with the top of the green leaf, bottom right. I'm not big on 'gardening' photos but those elements are for me not just highly distracting (especially the one on the right) but unattractive. Nice capture.

Thanks very much for your thoughtful comments. They are very much appreciated. I agree with both comments. Oddly enough, I just zoomed too close with my new lens and didn't crop. It was just not composed as well as it should have been. Better next time! Thanks again!
