Honestly, I'm totally bored with perfect bird portraits... but I still do them while I'm waiting for something to happen. I'm now trying to get some more "artistic" photos of birds. I spotted this American Kestrel just before sunset out my window on one of the raptor perches I put up around the yard. I could see the highlighted perimeter feathers and rushed outside hoping to catch what I saw when the kestrel fanned its tail so the light showed through the feathers.

I used to have a next-door neighbor who loved to expound on how smart he was, of being a member of Mensa, blah-blah-blah, etc. He told me, on numerous occasions, that I needed to have the sun behind me when I was taking photos. Therefore, Q.E.D. o_O
