I recently spent a week in the Hill Country of Texas photographing Spring wildflowers. On the way there we stopped at Palo Duro Canyon. Surprisingly (to me) this state park was remarkably productive for birding. The wife loves that and we thought we'd need to go all the way down to Big Bend NP to do some of that properly. The longest lens I had for this trip was 16-80mm for my X-T3, so I just had to content myself with viewing with our binoculars. However, this big guy decided to come strutting by just a few feet from us.

We spent a day at Palo Duro a few years back and quite enjoyed our time there. I came away thinking that it's one of those places that is not well known but punches way above it's weight.
