Will there be a Z 60 or Z 50 Mark ii in 2021?

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

I am happy with my D7500, but I am looking for a backup camera (to minimize changing lenses in the field).
The Z 6 / 7 came out in 2018 and the Z 50 in 2019.. the Z 5 and both Mark ii Z 6 / 7 came out this year (2020).

I tried the Z 6, found it good, but I missed the 1.5 Crop factor, as I mainly photograph wildlife: from small birds to deer.
I tried the Z 50 but the lack of IBIS and a different battery type turned me away from it. I already have spare batteries, so it would be nice to be able to use the same on both cameras.

When can we expect the Z 50 Mark ii or better yet a Z 60? If the wait is too long, I might look for a 2nd hand D7500.

Thanks and stay healthy!

In short, no one knows, but it does appear Nikon continue to rate DX peripheral to its FX system

There's much speculation on your question and related wrt what cameras are in Nikon's future (and options in our future's)

So you’re missing resolution and probably ‘enough focal length’
Cropping incamera is equal to cropping in PP but you need the same resolution.

Why do you think Nikon will use another battery for the Z50II?

No one knows wether there will be a Z60 nor wether it will be a better Z50.

my 2 cents?
I’d buy a second D7500, best backup imo is the same camera, same controls, same features, same ‘behaviour’ and same haptics.

@fcotterill thank you for the links. they were an interesting read.
Ironically, I read that the DX Market is still bigger than the FX Market -> LINK
So not sure why Nikon is focusing mainly on FX.

@Thern absolutely, same size and function definitely makes it easier to work with both cameras.
I was surprised to see how expensive a new or 2. hand D7500 still is (you can get a new Z50 for that price!)
As for the Z50 ii or Z60 having the standard battery, just wishful thinking :)
