Willet and waves

Since you asked :). I *personally* find the vertical format doesn't work for this shot because the bird seems kinda cramped. I would have preferred a horizontal orientation, with more space off to the right where the bird is looking. Though I applaud going for the vertical -- I don't do that near often enough.

I have mixed feelings about the shutter speed. The waves right behind the bird look soft, but 1/6 wasn't slow enough to get a real silky look and the actual look of those waves isn't that appealing to me. Then the waves further out are better defined. The combination doesn't appeal to me. I'd have tried a faster shutter speed. A matter of taste. Time permitting, this is the kind of scene where playing with shutter speed and orientation is the right thing to do. Plus getting different wave looks -- breaking closer, breaking further out, etc.

I like the bird in the foreground, the layering of colors, etc.

Thanks! Much appreciated. I intended on experimenting more with settings and other framing, sadly the bird didn’t stick long.
