I'm starting to suffer from withdrawal simptoms - lack of photographic opportunities. It has been weeks of gloomy, grey cloud overcast here in Southern Ontario lately. Just terrible for wildlife photography. On top of all that we're into yet another lockdown so that also limits one's mobility.

I tossed the camera into the car today when I had to run an errand in the district, just in case. As I moved along the rural roads I noticed a number of hawks perched in the trees. I almost think they are just as fed up with the weather as I am. At one stage I noticed two Red-tailed Hawks perched in the same tree. That is not something I've seen before. Checking on-line it seems they can mate for life so I guess this must be a couple.

They were far away and this is a severe crop, but at least I got a small photographic fix to calm the withdrawal symptoms. :)

Beautiful image Rassie - it looks cold there. I can sympathise with your withdrawal symptoms as we were restricted to 5km from home for some months last year. My wife and I walked nearly everyday in local bushland which until then we had utilised infrequently. Visiting the same area daily allowed us to see a range of birds that we had not come across locally before. Hope your authorities get on top of things quickly and that 2021 is a better year for you all, Andy

Thanks. At least we don't have limits as to distances that we can travel, but we still try and limit moving around too much among the crowds. Fortunately I live on the edge of town and it's 5 minutes' drive to get into the farmlands. Cold, yeah, it's chilly at around 0C daily but not nearly as bad as it can, and has been. The sun sets here at 5pm at the moment, so it's already dark by the time wifey gets home, leaving no time to go walk in the woods with a camera after work. 🙁

I too have the same feelings lately. Nice to see you found a moment to capture this image. Sometimes a few nice shots like this will get me until spring!

I hear you. My addiction needs to be fed, though. I need quite a few more shots to see me through to spring. 🤡

I haven't had my camera out since before Thanksgiving... Full on set winter Blues here as well. Just found out about a local bison herd that I might go see if they are a possible photo op. other than that picking are pretty slim... I'm itching to try out my new monopod setup. Normally I would be thinking about a trip to Florida next month but that's not happening...

Pragtig, Koos. I have not shot anything serious since Feb last year. And now it seems our imminent trip to Kruger - 19 day to go, may be sunk tonight when Pres Cyril is going to address the nation! So I fix old photos - luckily, I have 1000's

Thanks, Callie. I cross fingers for you - hopefully the trip goes ahead. I would love to be able to go somewhere warm with lots of wildlife instead of sitting here in this gloomy winter. I also have thousands of images but it's only relatively recently that I managed to get better images with better learned techniques. The early shots, circa 2005-2010 will certainly be more challenging to improve significantly through processing. Can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear. 🥴

Koos - you will be surprised what you can do with the old images - I have 1000's of jpegs and if you change the depth to 16 bit, chase it around in ACR and PS, and Nik, I am amazed sometimes what pops out.

Nice capture Rassie, I think we are all really struggling with this second wave --- the infection rate is horrendous at present, but at least we have a great hobby for distraction and have the opportunity to communicate with many new found friends through this forum -- there are plenty of others less fortunate !

Things are pretty awful worldwide, we're in lockdown again in GB.. You lot keep me going, I love looking at the photos and the comments. It only serves to make me more determined to get out there more, whenever that may be.....Thanks everybody.:) BTW nice shot Koos!
