Late afternoon in Johnson Strait waiting for Orca to appear. The ascending "steps of light"going up to the sky intrigued me, hence this shot. D850 with Nikon 300mm Pf lens plus 1.4TC @ 420mm., ISO 125, f5.6, 1/640 sec., Handheld from boat. 22/09/18.

Lovely place, did the orcas play?
Yes Callie, they did sort of, but in the distance---except for this one "resident" Orca who took our boat for a competitor, and charged !! as below. Unfortunately it came up so quickly and close to the hull that this was the only shot I got. As you can see it was a beastly wet and cold day, but this "attack" certainly warmed us up !

Oh Boy! That must be wonderful to experience. Humpback has done it for us at Gold Coast - under, next to and adjacent the boat.

I find that Cetaceans are really fast and often really difficult to get a good photo. The smaller the species the more difficult to photograph. Nice photos Gottshotz

Thanks Kathy --- you're right, the moment is all too often over before you've had a chance to react and get a good shot --- I hope to go to the north of Iceland next year for some more whale watching.
