Prompted by the thread on the "discussion" forum I thought I would share a few more of my Yosemite photos across the years.

I didn't really get into photography until 2011. I bought a couple of books and started trying to learn some basics for a then upcoming trip to Yosemite. Until a few years ago when I started getting interested in wildlife, landscape was all I did.

Since 2011 I've made one or more trips to Yosemite every year. Spring is always a good time to go and I try to make winter trips immediately after a snowfall (which aren't that often since the valley is only at 4,000 ft). I'll be there the last week in April again this year.

So, here's a few of my efforts...

This photo should not be confused with any attempt to emulate Ansel Adams' famous Moon over Half Dome photo. His moon was on the other side of the dome, larger, and pre-planned. Mine is titled "Serendipity". Wandering around the valley with a camera in your hand and realizing it's getting close to sunset and you are a day or two before a new moon. You happen to look up, and there's the shot!

I always like to go down to Cathedral Beach every trip. I love this view of the back of El Capitan. This day, the clouds really lined up nicely.

This is a favorite sunset spot I always visit along the Merced River. You never know what kind of sky you might get. This time there were no clouds (which actually worked out well for once) but I did have some nice alpenglow on Half Dome, some remaining fall colors sticking around and was able to plant my tripod far enough forward to avoid all the overhanging branches while remaining clear of getting in the water. And the reflection worked out kind of nice as well.

There's nothing really special about this shot from "Tunnel View". But as many times as I've been there it seems a struggle to get a nice composition. Getting a nice flow on Bridalveil Fall and some good clouds finally made for this shot.

Here's one from one of my quick winter trips. I really love this location because it captures Yosemite Falls, but also part of the chapel which is the oldest building in the park and one I always love to photograph any time of the year. Getting some flow in Yosemite Falls in December along with a nice dusting of snow really captures the beauty of winter in the park.

Wow- what gear did you use?

The red on the mtn- that’s gorgeous. I haven’t been to that park yet, so I know nothing about where to shoot etc. All I know is FireFall like most peeps.

That shot is really gorgeous as are the BnWs!

Looks like you've accumulated a pretty nice set of Yosemite shots. Some classics among them. But the last one is my favorite of this set. Well done.

Thank you. I probably love winter scenes the best but they are harder to come by there due to the limited snow they receive and the distance I have to travel to get there. But I do check the weather up there all winter long.

Wonderful photographs, @JohnC88! :)

The first two indeed remind me a lot of Ansel Adams', that I never tire of contemplating. I've only been once in the Yosemite, but I have fond memories of that area.

Thank you. Yosemite does lend itself well to B&W since we all have seen how Ansel Adams' did it. It's always a challenge deciding which ones look best in B&W.

Very nice. I'll be there the first week of June, staying in the valley. Hoping I get some good shots like these

Thank you. The secret to that time of year is get out early and late. Leave mid day for the tourists. The park is pretty empty before 9:00 am and usually gets a lot less busy by 4 or 5. Plenty of opportunities to get out in the best light.

My gear over the time changed a lot. But I can tell you they were all shot with DX cameras (multiple Nikon and Fuji) and kit lenses. One of my favorite lenses early on was the Nikon DX 18-105. I got a lot of good shots with that lens. Shooting landscape is a lot cheaper than chasing wildlife, that's for sure. :ROFLMAO:

It is- I love the DX 18-140 for my d5500! Great lens for me.

Yes much cheaper

I like to see it in B&W, but I think I prefer the colours, for a change. It separates the layers a little better, and it's richer.
My experience there has me going back and forth. Sometimes there's some nice colors/sky that really help make an image stand out. Many of my favorite images from there are in color. But many times (in a place like Yosemite) the composition heavily involves the granite rock that creates so much of the park's uniqueness. Often, the nuance of the granite tends to be better viewed in B&W IMO. But I also think Ansel Adams heavily influenced the concept of B&W in the park so that today, people tend to think B&W when they think of Yosemite.

These are so great! All good, but the one with alpenglow and reflection - wow, wow, wow!!!
Thank you. It's also been one of my favorites.

This place is costing me money. 😁 After pulling these out and posting them I got weak and decided to order a metal print of the alpenglow and another landscape I have of Oxbow Bend. I don't order metal prints often for fear of being disappointed. I'm living on the edge more as I get older. :ROFLMAO:

Same on metal- who’d you order from, what size print? How much?

I don't print a lot. But there is a lab near me where I can pick up paper and canvas prints locally with no shipping involved. I've used them when I've had photos going into the local OC fair. Metal and other media do get printed in Kentucky and shipped. I think their quality is pretty good and they will actually give you free samples using your images if you call and speak with them.

Their prices are pretty reasonable IMO. I ordered 16x20 on the alpenglow image and a 10x30 for the Oxbow Bend. I think they were $73 and $77. They have prices on the website.

Free samples is critical to see output, wow! Thank you I will bookmark them!
