Z400 2.8 converter 1.4 and 2.0 test

I tried some tests with the Z400 2.8 the 1.4 and 2x converter. I find it difficult to judge, but I still have the idea that the 2x is just a bit sharper in centre. The 1.4 seems a bit sharper in the corners. Let me know what you guys think. I went for the 2x converter for possibility of having 1120mm f8

Have the 400 2.8 TC since 3 months. Took it to Spain and several times to local hides. Did a lot of testing with both the external 1.4 and 2.0 and , also looking at your results, I think the Z400 2.8 with internal TC + external 1.4 TC gives the overall best result.

I have had the 400 TC 2.8 for over 6 months and have used both teleconverters in the field. I have to view at 100% or greater to see any significant difference between the TC 20 and stacking the internal and an external TC 14. I see a very slight difference in acuity at the edges with the internal TC looking a little better than the external. So I have 3 choices:
bare lens - 400/2.8 and 560/4.0
external TC 14 - 560/4.0 and 784/5.6
external TC 20 - 800/5.6 and 1120/f.8

My opinions or thoughts,
As expected, the bare lens has the best image quality and best low light capability. Preferred for most mammals and larger birds.
The TC 14 gives very good image quality out to the DX corners and has the most flexible focal lengths for birds when I can't get closer.
The TC 20 has very good image quality in the center and mid-frame at 800 mm. I don't find 1120 mm very useful for my photography.

For most outings, I start with the bare lens but carry the TC 14.

I think your results are good. I have the 2x and the IQ for my more general use is fine. I have it on the z70-200 f2.8 as my stop gap until a longer zoom emerges 🙏

I also have the 70-200/2.8 and have used it with both TCs. The TC 14 is excellent with this lens. I find the TC 20 a little bit soft in the corners but the centerand mid frame are still very good. I have two bodies so for my trips with minimal walking about I usually take a Z7ii + 70-200/2.8 & TC14 and Z9 + 400 TC 2.8. I am still hoping for something that covers 100-400 at 2.8 but that may be a pipe dream.
