Z8 frustration

My Z8 will often switch back to 3D subject detect mode after I switch to single point AF. I can’t discern a pattern to this, it’s random. I cant find any setting that would explain. Am I missing something?
Thanks for any suggestions.

There is no background info here, but if you have been sitting in the chair playing will all the settings as I do some times things get messed up. Sometimes the easiest thing is to reset back to the default setting and start over. See if the problem still exists.

Do you have single point programmed to a button? If you do how is it programed ? If you are using the RSF(Recall Shooting Function) (with the hold option) , everytime the camera times out it will revert to your default focusing setting.

Check the menus to see if Store Point by Orientation (menu item a5)is enabled. If that is on then when you change camera orientation as in rotating from Landscape to Portrait orientations the camera will revert back to the AF point location and AF Area mode last used in that particular orientation. That can be a handy feature for some situations but especially when hand holding can lead to problems like you're reporting as you bring the camera down away from your eye, inadvertently change the orientation, bring it back up and suddenly the focus point type and location have changed.

Maybe something else is going on like AF Area mode selection assigned to a lens control ring or something else but store by orientation trips some folks up so it's worth checking.
