Z8 single point focus

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

I thought when the z8’s AF was set to Single Point AF, (pg 107 in the reference manual), in the viewfinder once focus is locked, you’d see a small, green set of brackets within a a slightly larger set of square brackets- like the icon on pg 107.

Am I mistaken here? I currently see a green square but nothing within that square.

Maybe I’m imagining things??

I don't know what page 107 contains, as the reference manual doesn't show anything like that on page 107. But my z9 shows a box with a small dot if it's at the center AF point, or a box with no small dot if it's not.

Oh, you meant 108. But no, it's just a box. That's it. The large brackets indicate (more or less) what the focus points look like, which are inside the brackets.

Place the focus point in the center of the frame, then a single square will turn on unless the menu is set to display auxiliary focus points. What is the firmware?
Updated. Spun the shooting modes. Select “precision autofocus” mode in AF-S mode, then one square appears with a dot in the center. This option is not available in AF-C mode. I have the 2.01 version installed. I can put engineering firmware (beta) or 1.00 to see if it will work on earlier firmware.

I think you are thinking of subject detection. When selecting single point all you will see is the box since you cannot use subject detection with that mode. I’m looking at pg. 107 and all I see is the small red box in the figure.
