hi, I've got the red video record button set to focus area, when I flick the switch to video and press the red button it still changes the focus area and not recording, any ideas

There's two different sets of button assignment settings for photo and video (menu option f2 and g2 respectively). Have a look at the settings in menu option g2 and ensure the video record button is set appropriately there.
