Hey everyone - I just finished putting together a free worksheet PDF for the Z8 and Z9 Custom Controls (shooting) menu. I'm going to send it out in the newsletter tomorrow and it'll be a suggested download in the next update for the setup guide. This one is free to anyone who wants it.

Here's what I'm putting in the newsletter tomorrow.

Attention Z8 and Z9 Owners!

Do you find setting your custom controls a little...daunting?

Let's face it - there are a ton of options and a lot of places to put them on the Z8 and Z9 and keeping track of everything is tough.

That's why I've created this free worksheet for setting up your custom controls (shooting) menu in the Z8 and Z9! I have included a table that allows you to fill in each customization you set for the Z8 and Z9, making it easy to keep track of what you have and haven't programmed as you work (and it's handy afterward to remember what you put where).

In addition, I've listed two pages of customizations that are handy for wildlife photographers, along with some brief notes. This little worksheet will make customizing your camera go soooo much smoother - I know it's made my life easier.

Again, 100% free to anyone, and feel free to share it if you like:

PS - I'm in the final editing stages for my current update to the Z8/9 Setup Guide. It's added the new 4.0 firmware options for the Z9 and some new stuff, too - over 80 pages of new material so far. I'm trying to get the update done and out by the end of the month. (The update is free for anyone with the book.)

Hi Steve. I am a bit confused with:

Focus/AF Area Mode Swap
Allows you to use the rear (main) command dial to switch AF areas

How do I do this?
That's why you gotta get the Z8/9 Guide :)

J/K

If you go into the area on the selection screen (the one with the camera illustration) and head to the Command Dials, you'll see an option for Focus/AF area mode selection. Click that and the next screen allows you to swap the command dial functions. I like spinning the main (rear) command dial to switch AF areas instead of the front dial, so I swap 'em. For me, it seems more intuitive.

Also, I'll try to clarify it a little and update the document.

Thank you! I have the guide. I will look.

As Steve recommended I reread the customization section of his latest Z9 guide. I tweeked my camera in accordance with his latest set up and took it for a spin today. I love the way he explains all the focus modes and the innovative way he has the camera set up! I found that with his help my skill has increased tremendously. I would be lost without his guide!
