Z9 Auto Capture and Lightning?

I wonder if I can use Auto Capture to photograph lightning?
It would be nice to set up the camera and let it do the work.
I know that I can do it with Pre Release Capture.

Just get yourself a miops - the latest generation is awesome. BUT of course let us know how you get on with auto-capture -- not sure what settings would work for lightning though since it is not a subject that the Z9 detects today.

The Mets have warned for a minor lightning storm this afternoon - I hope it will come so I can try to catch some lightnings....

It might be worth just shooting 8.3K RAW video then extracting the frames you want to use.

I did read that the auto capture would work with lightning but can't find the reference now.

i would think auto capture plus pre-release would work but you have that image quality tradeoff. i suspect auto capture might work on its own, at least somewhat

Damn. I should have thought of this. (applies dope slap) Doesn't make the lightning trigger obsolete itself (try and hold the camera in place for a long time waiting for a flash...) but it will help a lot. Southwest monsoon this August...

You can also take a lot of lightning shots by lowering your ISO as far as possible, using the smallest aperture you can find, perhaps adding an ND filter, anything to get your shutter speed up to @30 seconds. Then open the shutter and wait.

Which program can extract frames from a video? I have LrC and PS.

You can extract frames in-camera. Scroll through video and press i button. 33mp jpeg so need to get exposure, wb and picture control correct in-camera.
