How many camera bodies?

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

I have way too many, as my perception is that you get a pittance when you sell them and I admit (openly!) to being something of a gadget freak and a packrat. I still have three film cameras upstairs in a drawer (Nikon Ftn, Nikon 8008, Nikon 2020). I have only one DSLR left, however, the D850, which I use less and less. I did sell several DSLRs. I currently use both Nikon and Olympus mirrorless cameras, plus I own a Panasonic G9 I rarely use. I actually am toying with picking up a Sony body to add to the fun, as I already have a 200-600mm adapted for Nikon (works great on the Z9). What can i say? I like playing with toys. I am assuming here that small digital cameras don't count in this, as I have a drawer full of older, low megapixel pocket cameras that are virtually worthless in resale value.
I still have my Nikon F4, Pentax 67, and some other old 'classics', which I rationalize as well with the thought that I'd get pennies trying to sell them and I still think they're cool... though I have no idea what I'm going to do with the rolls of 120 and 35mm Kodachrome I ended up still having :)

d500 (2)...d850...d4s....z9.....both d500s' are sold. What goes next depends on what Nikon releases next. I would be happy with a low light z9ish body. Higher megapixel >45 doesn't interest me and I will add a second z9. Either way I will sell the 850 and the 4s....it's all up to nikon:)

I have 5 if you count a point & shoot I no longer use.
D850 - Currently has wide angle lens.
D750 - Originally purchased for night capability
D3200 - Still sometimes like to try for decent shot with basic DSLR that doesn't have bells & whistles

Sony DSC-HX90v - pocket camera that has a very good brain. *Also has 30x zoom

I was curious on average how many camera bodies do most serious photographers own? I owned only one up until about 12 years ago and have had two ever since. I almost always take two out with me and enjoy doing so. I have considered getting a third mainly because neither of mine do not focus bracketing but keep talking myself out of it lol. I'm sure there are some that own several bodies but I'm curious what the norm is, especially among members on here.
I shoot mainly action sports, and wildlife. Two taken on every shoot, sometimes a third. Own 5 total.

It looks like most all Nikon reading through these pages. A handful of Sony gear and Cannon almost nada! interesting...

Only one... a D750. Lost 2 Lieca cameras, older Nikon cameras, and a ton of gear in the Hurricane Ian storm surge last Fall. Looking to jump onto mirrorless and new gear (A1.. Z9?) very soon. I'm interested in seeing what Nikon has to offer in their upcoming "announcement" (Z8?) and will weigh some options.

Sold most of my F mount stuff.

Have 3 bodies left:
D750 convert to IR and get a lens for IR???

Too many, ha! I am a bit of a hoarder and I don't like giving up gear.

The stable includes...

Z9 - primary camera
Zfc - my fun camera for just walking around or tossing in the car
Z6II - bought used as backup for the Z9 until something akin to the D850 shows up in Z
D850 - never giving this one up, even though it mostly just serves as a film digitizer these days
D200 - keeping this mostly for sentimental value now. I shot this camera for over ten years and took it all over the place. When I got better gear, I had sent it off for IR conversion, but it got lost in the mail for months. By the time it finally showed back up, I had picked up a used D800 for IR instead. Keeping this one anyway, because it means a lot to me.
D800 - IR converted
F100 - For shooting film and being serious about it
FM - For shooting film and indulging in fully manual nostalgia

Only bodies I've ever actually given up were my D70s (my first DSLR, which I gave to a friend who wanted to learn photography last year) and my D500 (which I sold to help pay for the Z9). I'll probably sell the Z6II, though, when the mythical Z8 shows up. I don't care for its control layout and I'm just using it as an emergency backup.

Edit: Almost forgot... an old Minolta film body from before I started shooting Nikon. Also kept purely for nostalgia, even though I never shoot it now.
I had my old Minolta SRT-SCII body for a long time too. However, it needd repair to be usable so I had to part ways. I did keep the old lenses and use them on my Z6 with a Metabones Adapter. The adapter is just a spacer and these are manual focus lenses anyway. They work just fine with the focus peaking. I even kept my bellows so I can do a bit of macro work with the 50mm f/1.7, the bellows and the Z6. It i fun to play! By the way, I do have an F100 for a bit of film work.

I have an IR converted D600 and use it often with the F mount 24-120 or 28-300 lenses. Nice kit you have there!
