The thing I like about morning doves amongst other things, is that they are like sparrows when it comes to photographing.. They have great color contrast and the camera is very kind to them..

Here in Quebec, we have a very very hard winter; polar temperatures in january and february and now a lot of snow; even if birds certainly struggle in such situation, it doesn't seem to be the case of this morning dove, this afternoon in my backyard.

Nice, up until last Nov, I was shooting with a D40X in green auto mode, with Jpeg. I learned a lot since upgrading to a D7500
There was a point in time that I was shooting a D300s and a D4S in jpg only ... advice from one of my first photography teachers. My other Idaho teaching guru Christopher Balmer uses tiff or jpg and does not edit other than cropping. He sets up his camera profile and settings within and they are ready to crop and print. The big difference with Balmer is that he stresses that his way is not what everyone prefers, including his wife :) and that Raw and Tiff give you the most editing flexibility and keep the most data your camera recorded.

My goals tonight were to walk Elmer as far as he wanted to go and look for Swallows and Mourning Doves.

It had gotten too dark by the time we made it to the State Park where we did see a dozen or more swallows.
This is a big crop on a friendly Dove that coasted by us along the river.
