600TC Lens collar freely rotates after drop

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

That's frustrating.
I guess the know was broken? Otherwise they could use the old one^^

And why the heck would they replace the name plate? Just to make money?
Yes, they said there wasn't a workaround for the knob, which is on back order now. Just hoping not another two weeks, it's soul destroying having to wait, and I am not the most patient of fellas!

Yes, coincidentally the lady who Teams interviewed me today to assess my claim said she felt the nameplate would not be covered, due to it not being a 'functional' part of the lens. It was bent and badly scratched so I am happy to pay out of pocket for it to keep the lens in overall good condition aesthetically.

You are in the UK, so please share your insurance experience. Is it a homeowners policy or separate equipment policy.
Sure, anything in particular you'd like to know? I am with Eversure specific photographic equipment insurance. I have my 600 f/4 and my Z8 insured with them. For theft and accidental damage. I have a claim on going at the moment, so can't be specific until that is done and dusted. But will be more than happy to update eveyrone after that

I would like to update this thread with UK specifics please.

So, the name plate is not in back order?
I wonder how they manage to find one with the right serial number on it^^
I know! Maybe they make several for each unit that is produced, but that seems unlikely, hope just isn't just a blank without the serial number, just model details, would be pretty pissed off if that is the case!

In days past, when a lens mount (which carried the SN) was replaced, the lens got a new SN. It was coded so that Nikon Service knew by the SN that it had been replaced. I suspect when you get yours back, it will have a different SN.
That makes sense, will need to update insurance details afterwards then..

A month away from my lens has been a bit challenging and had to wait an extra 2 weeks for one part, but Fixation came through in the end, with really excellent communication throughout (vitally important IMO). The one thing is now though is I have a new serial number as they had to replace the nameplate, oddly it is a lower numbered one than the one it originally came with! I have updated my insurance company with this detail.

Now to keep a firm grip on it in future, at all costs!
