Thanks ChrisRalph,
Your Z8 looks like it is working pretty good for you, nice set
Chris S.
Thanks. Congratulations.I’m impressed as well.nice set. I also just acquired a Z8 together with the Z180-600. I am greatly impressed with autofocus system. I'll keep my D850 for landscape work.
Thanks StevenNice work with the new gear!
Thanks StevenNice shots!
Thanks Gavin. It’s a process. Still experimenting.Looks like you have mastered the set up of your new Z8 Ralph.
Some great images that you have posted.
Gavin
Thanks. Took it out for another spin today. Still making changes. Trying to see what focus modes work best for me. So many choices!Z8 with the 500 PF - my favorite setup! Great captures!
Thank you. Right now I am experimenting with small wide, 3d, and Auto. Subject detection in on. I also have spot assigned to my Fn button on the lens. Yesterday I shot with 3d a lot for everything but BIF. I liked it a lot and am learning toward that as my main choice. But that can change. I’ve been out 3 time with the Z8 and Everytime I go out I change my work flow. SOOOO MANY CHOICES. Still experimenting with small and large wide. Jury still out. Haven’t tried a handoff yet. Haven’t needed to.Hi Ralph and compliments for the images, it seems you hit the nail on the head right away. Can you tell us how you set the AF on the Z8? Thanks.

Here are a few more from yesterday12/14/2024. Nothing spectacular, just trying to figure things out. I notice that the sensor seems to be more sensitive to exposure settings compared to the D500. Some resolution was lost on posting.

ThanksNice shots, Ralph!
Thanks. They were taken at the Edwin B Forsythe Wildlife refuge in Galloway township.Beautiful pictures, the Z8 agrees with you! I see you live in NJ, where did you take your pictures?
Thanks Phil. I’m still getting use to it. After shooting the D500 for five years, it’s been a little overwhelming with all the options. I just have to figure out what works for me and weed out the rest. I’m getting there. What is still a little weird is the fact that while using 3d or the AutoAF mode the focus box has the entire screen. I’m so programmed that the focus box was my center point but now it is not and I find that the subject will drift to the bottom or top of the viewfinder while firing off a burst without me realizing.Great shots. How do you like the Z8 (sorry, you have probably stated this elsewhere)?
The number of configuration options is a little daunting but it's nice to have the flexibility. I made a small 1x1 custom box and assigned it to one of the back buttons when I'm shooting something where I want to be really specific about where I want the camera to locate, and attempt focus. You might try it to see if you like if, if not you can just choose another option. Thanks Phil. I’m still getting use to it. I actually did the same thing.I assigned it to my Fn button on my lens but i found that i liked the single point option without subject detection better for that button. Thats how my D500 is set up. I applied the wide small to my F2 button. The number of configuration options is a little daunting but it's nice to have the flexibility.
