I’ve never done this but always found it interesting. What’s the trick to capturing shots like this?

im a beginner. Top one 30 seconds bottom 1/15th. Nd filters as well. Plenty of time for failed chases. Started using spray and pray with timer moved onto triggers. If ya look find em on ebay etc "not used" often very cheap.

Lovely, especially #2 just crack me up! 
I like both a lot but #2 takes the win. That's not hill country in Texas, is it? It sure could pass for it if it's not. I've tried that before the old fashion way doing long exposures but I found that all the setup, time & patience just didn't produce many good pics from where I lived and I discovered that storms move pretty fast. Maybe if I had been at the beach where there were less obstructions it might've paid off. I still might watch for a storm and shoot over to North Beach and set up under a pavilion and give it another try. It was fun to do.
