This photo was taken from a moving car. Antelope Island is a state park in the Great Salt Lake. To get to the park, one drives along a long and straight causeway from the mainland to the island. As small rodents live on the roadside of the causeway, raptors frequently hunt for them by flying up and down over the sides of the road. If one is lucky, the driver of the car can coast along the road at the same speed as the flying raptor while passengers simply shoot out the window. The photographers get to shoot for a long time, as the car and bird are at the same speed and can continue to shoot for as long as the bird keeps hunting. In this case, we were able to follow along with a male Northern Harrier, well know as the Gray Ghost, as he hunted. Because he was hunting, most of the shots captured him while he was looking at the ground, but, for a one brief moment, he did take a look at the car, and I was lucky to catch this image with the snowy shore and the lake as a background.
