When it rains in the Kalahari, anything unexpected can happen. This Kousant waterhole, north of Nossob. The rainstorm transformed the dry pan around the waterhole into a small oasis. This herd of Red Hartebeest came in to drink and treated us to this never to be repeated scene.

Beautiful Callie,
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Gavin - this sighting was a gift, such a scene never even entered out thoughts.
We have stopped going to "find" a pre-concieved animal, sighting, whatever. That nearly never transpires and it leaves you unthankful and unhappy.
We just go and take whatever the day gives and are so thankful. It is the expectations that kills the joy. No expectation, everything may be a surprise and bring happiness.

You‘ve had excellent success around water sources. This might give you an opportunity to see a lion, leopard or other predator try to catch a meal… Not sure where your safety factors in though….

Thanks Larry
Only one rule in all our NP - stay in the car. So, as long as you do not get out, you are save. 😇

Amazing capture! The only way to get such shots is to be out there when you can. you were there for this one!
Thanks Joe - that is for sure. Once the lust for the Big five has abated, there is so much more to enjoy out in the veld!
