Affinity Photo 2 $35

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

No, it is a Photoshop clone and has something akin to ACR but it isn’t a digital asset manager.
I have used affinity for years as I am averse to the subscription model. It is not as comprehensive as PS but more than adequate for the amateur photographer.
Yes, it's not an asset manager. But for cataloging and keywording I use the free version of bridge. They complement each other.

I've also used Affinity Photo for years - but I'm lazy and don't often use it. It also can be used on my iPad as well as my Mac so in the field, should I want to edit, I cn. Plus its not a subscription - a big plus for me !

That's Adobe Bridge

I’ll check out Topaz….thanks! I do NOT need or want a catalogue editing program and LrC forces that on you so I’m looking for an alternative…
Topaz does specific things to enhance photos like remove noise, sharpen and add pixels. It is not a general photo editing program.

Despite its editing capabilities Photos is primarily a Data Base Program that changes the underlying name of your photo in order to upload it to the cloud. It played havoc with my regular file saving and storage methods and I have removed it from my computer workflow. I use Image Capture to download my iPhone pictures to my MacBook Pro. Image Capture comes with Mac and is semiautomatic as it sees what photos need to be downloaded and selects them. All my Nikon photos are transferred with copy and paste in Finder.

Yes. You can edit a photo in affinity via Photos. I’ve done it several times. Also true for Topaz.
One caution, if you do edits in Apple Photos or any other program and then edit in Affinity from within Apple Photos (round trip) when you get it opened in Affinity, it reverts back to the original image. Caution here is edit in Affinity first then you can do other edits in Apple Photos or something like Pixelmator Pro after editing in Affinity. I know it sounds convoluted but hope I explained it clearly.

Right, although generally if I'm editing in Affinity from Photos I'm not planning on doing anything else with it. I've mostly done it for IR conversions. I'll use a 720nm IR filter on my phone and then do the channel swap in Affinity via Photos.

Thanks Jeff… Affinity seems to have everything I need going forward…👍

Another option is Pixdlmaor Pro. Some simple edit things there are a lot easier than Affinity. I use both. Apple recently bought Pixelmator Pro so integration should be more seamless moving forward or maybe Apple Photos will be more like Pixelmator.

Affinity is a good program. It does a whole lot more than I ever need it to do. The inpainting brush and the clone tools work very well. Also I like the live layers.

cool. Just wanted to offer that tip so others could avoid the frustration I had the first couple times it happened to me.

Thanks! Bought the V2 today to get the $35 deal and dumped the Adobe subscription…. Now the learning curve starts!😅
