On a recent trip to Chobe National Park in Botswana we came across a herd of Hippo in the water and moved closer to observe them,
One of the Male Hippos was not happy with our presence and decided to charge the boat,
Fortunately we had an experienced boat pilot who anticipated the Hippo's reaction and immediately backed of at this time,

Yip he does look a tad grumpy……😳😜😂

Beautifully captured with the caption - "I am in charge and you are not!".
Thanks for looking Joe,
Fully agree with your caption, the Hippo is regarded as one of the most dangerous animals in Africa when encroaching on their territory,

Gavin

Many thanks for your feedback Kurt ,
Enjoyed your angry Snowy Plover ,
Did you also have to back off? :)
Regards,
Gavin
I did back off slowly and had pepper spray ready:ROFLMAO: Love seeing picks of Africa and the wildlife. Love to go sometime, it's just all those wild animals :)!

Appreciate your feedback Harry,
We got this glare before he decided to charge the boat,
Regards
Gavin

Gavin- BEFore he decided to charge??!! WOW- heard they kill more humans than lions or crocs over there. Great shot- don't know IF I woulda been able to hold the cam that still...! What was your gear- 400/500mm lens?

You are correct, they are known to kill more humans - especially when they are out of the water foraging and feel threatened when a person is situated between them and the water.
I was using my D500 and 300/f2.8 lens which with the cropped sensor was an effective 450mm,
We were fortunate to have a very experienced guide and boat pilot who anticipated the Hippo's reaction and moved back rapidly as he was about to charge,
Many thanks for looking and commenting,

Thanks Gavin- sounds like a Great adventure & Nice gear to have/use. Was your shot cropped much/at all? Love the shot b/c of the Impending danger & look on his face & w/the way it looks makes it appear you were even closer, which is the goal (IMHO) of every wildlife photog when shooting dangerous animals

I was also shooting low down - sitting on the floor of the boat which made the hippo appear closer, and I also cropped in by around 20%,

Gavin
