I’m going nuts trying to find LV switch or menu item. Tried Google and got nowhere.
Anyone know how to turn on live view on Nikon Z8?

Try pressing the Monitor Mode button on the left side of the viewfinder.
d8 in the custom settings menu
Also make sure your eye piece is not blocking the eye sensor just about the viewfinder (or a big piece of dirt is not blocking it)
As others have posted it's really a switch from the EVF to the rear panel LCD that you have to both setup in the menu and then select with the viewfinder mode button on the side of the EVF housing. IOW, unlike a DSLR, your mirrorless camera is basically always in Live View mode it's just a question of whether that live view feed is going to the electronic viewfinder or to the rear panel LCD and that comes down to what display options you've enabled and which is currently selected.
